School Projects<\/p><\/div>\n

Members of the Basingstoke Heritage Society, the South View Conservation Group, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Hampshire County Council Arts & Museums Service \u00a0and Hampshire Museums and Galleries Trust have been working with local schools in the South View Area to promote the Holy Ghost Cemetery as a resource and amenity which the schools may use to support their curriculum.<\/p>\n

The support from teachers and students has been outstanding.<\/p>\n

On the following pages you can see examples of some of the project work carried out by the pupils at three of our local schools.<\/p>\n

The quality of this work is a result of the enthusiasm and commitment of the staff and students and these pages are intended to act as an on-going resource for future classes.[break][break]\n

South View Infant School<\/h4>\n

The school is located next to South View Junior School, and a short walking distance from The Vyne Community School. South View Infant School provides a safe and attractive environment for children to learn and has excellent resources and facilities both in class and in the playground.<\/p>\n

South View is well staffed and provides a high level of expertise in many areas, led by Head Teacher Miss Sarah Eastwood.<\/p>\n

Exploring the cemetery<\/p><\/div>\n

Dove House School<\/h4>\n

Dove House is a specialist School for children with learning difficulties, situated at the heart of the South View community.<\/p>\n

This Maths and Computing College has been classified as an \u2018Outstanding School\u2019 by Ofsted, which described the care and support provided by the staff lead by Head teacher Colin House, as exemplary. For more information visit the School website at:<\/p>\n

The Vyne Community School<\/h4>\n

The Vyne Community School and Arts College is a Higher School with very close connection to the Holy Ghost Cemetery.<\/p>\n

The Vyne Community School was created from the merger of the Queen Mary\u2019s School for Boys and Charles Chute Secondary Modern School in the 1970s.<\/p>\n

The name \u201cQueen Mary\u2019s\u201d was later transferred to the Queen Mary Sixth Form College in Cliddeston Road, Basingstoke and the school was renamed The Vyne School, in commemoration of the historical links both schools had to The Vyne house which was the former home of the Sandys and Chute Families.<\/p>\n

It was Lord Sandys of The Vyne who built the Chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity in the Holy Ghost Cemetery, while the Queen Mary Chapel School was a direct descendent of the boy\u2019s school which had been run in the Holy Ghost Chapel and the attached school building since the 13th century.<\/p>\n

Today this modern and forward thinking secondary school is run by Head teacher,\u00a0Mr Mark Kingswood.<\/p>\n
