REGISTER OF BURIALS
Mr Michael Rice, supported by volunteers from the Basingstoke Historical Association and the South View Conservation Group has manually transcribed the available official handwritten burial records from the official Register of Burials for the Holy Ghost Cemetery from 1858 to date onto searchable spreadsheets.
Please note that the original Burial Register documents are hand written, can be difficult to read and transcription errors can occur despite out best efforts and the great care we take.
We have therefore included the PDFs of these original handwritten Burial Registers below.
THE HOLY GHOST CEMETERY BURIAL RECORDS CAN NOW BE VIEWED ONLINE
There are FOUR Spreadsheets arranged according to the date when the burial was registered.
HOW TO FIND A PARTICULAR SURNAME IN THE BURIAL RECORDS
Selected KEY information from the Original Hand Written Registers of Burials has been transcribed into Spreadsheets and then sorted according to the Surname of the Deceased.
Please note that these spreadsheets do not include all of the recorded details for each burial which may be obtained from the Full Burial Records.
There are FOUR PDF Copies of Burial Records Sorted by Surname and within the time frame established in the Burial Register.

HOW TO FIND THE LOCATION OF A PARTICULAR BURIAL PLOT
The Cemetery as devised in 1858 was segregated into specific areas and each area was allocated a code letter – A,B,C,D,E, F,G,H, I, K , L and M.
Each burial was then assigned a grave number within that specific area. For example, the first burial recorded in the Register of Burials on the 3rd July 1858 was for Mrs Sarah Dyer, 78, Widow of Robert Dyer, a Wheelright, of Sarum Place, Basingstoke. Mrs Dyer was interred in Area C, Grave 124.
The Database of Burials therefore references the Burial Location by a letter and a number.
During the intervening years, many of the monuments may have been removed or damaged and are no longer visible but the burial records can be accessed.
Please note that there are almost 10,000 recorded burials on the database so you may need to be patient while the pages load.
